Saying goodbye pretty much stinks. And I am not good at it.
I also find that it doesn’t matter much if I am saying goodbye for a short time or a long time. Either way I am pretty terrible at it. So V.V., if you are reading this, just be forewarned that you might get a quick goodbye high five as I leave for work. And know that it doesn’t fully capture how happy we were to have you as part of our family.
Top Three Favorite (non-farm) V.V. Stories
3. I get to sit with V.V.!
The drive home from daycare is generally crazy or silent, as it is almost super time at the end of a long day of playing! One evening this month the girls argument was particularly cute:
R: I am going to sit with V.V. when we get home.
A: Me do it!
R: He is going to read to me.
A: No! Me!
R: I said so first.
A: No, Valentin read me.
This goes on for at least a minute… it was too cute to stop it right away.
Me: V.V. has two knees. Maybe you could both sit with V.V.
R: ….. (thinking)….. OK
And sure enough, at the end of supper time V.V. had both girls on his knees playing iPad games. It made this (host) mom’s heart very happy!
2. Catch Me, V.V.!
This is actually an Andre and V.V. story! Andre climbed the tree to retrieve a stray ball at Raquel’s birthday. The ball was HIGH up in the tree. After an unsuccessful attempt to get the ball, Andre decided to jump out of the tree. Unfortunately he only gave V.V. a second of notice after yelling “Catch me” before he jumped. V.V. did not catch him. To tell the truth, even if Andre had given him lots of notice, I am not sure that V.V. would have caught him. Why did I not record this!?!?
1. This fortune cookie tastes funny…
You don’t eat the paper, V.V.! You read the paper. J
So, just in case you don’t get a great goodbye from me in person, this is my way of saying goodbye. I hope you had a great time here, because we had a great time having you as part of our family. I hope that someday we will get to visit you in France. And remember… in about 18 years you might have some Canadian girls looking for an exchange host family.
